Current and future Lakeview students, here is a unique course option for you to consider! In Mr. Weaver's PLTW Design & Modeling course, students learn how to use modeling software, 3D printers, and other engineering tools to solve problems including ID tags and skimmer cars. If they have spare time, their creations are limited only by their imaginations. The pictured students created spinning top toys, post-it dispensers, Harry Potter wands, jewelry and pencil holders, a game-controller stand, and a mug. Soon, they'll start designing and prototyping the popular wooden puzzle block challenge! PLTW Design & Modeling is a nine-week elective available to 7th and 8th graders, where students learn how to ask questions, generate strong ideas, communicate through sketching, and build and test their prototypes. If your child might be interested in this course, be sure to add it to the course-selection sheet! Mr. Weaver is glad to answer any questions at jweaver@warsawschools.org

Students assisting other students creates an atmosphere of empathy. First Graders at Leesburg Elementary were impacted by 4th and 5th grade students. During a science experiment to discover how a liquid turns into a solid, Mrs. Miller's class and Sr. Castellanos's classes came to the aid of Sr. Duran's classes and Mrs. Cox's class. The older students encouraged and modeled for the younger students as well as validated their learning experience.

In preparation for Martin Luther King, Jr., students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd listened and sang a song about Dr. King and his work. After having a class discussion about Dr. King and singing the song, they used rhythm sticks to play and move to the music. Students made connections between the work Dr. King using one stick pattern and used a second pattern to chant Dr. King's name. This activity utilized our pillars of Empathy, Inclusivity, and Experience.

Reminder! WCS is not in session on Monday, Jan. 16 for MLK Jr. Day. Did you know that Monday is a National Day of Service dedicated to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? Even though there isn't school, there are many opportunities to get involved and make an impact! Here are some family-friendly ideas, but we would love to hear some of your own. 1) Donate to a local food pantry 2) Perform random acts of kindness 3) Put together a care package for local/national service workers 4) Do some #plogging 5) Read to residents at a local nursing home 6) Volunteer at an animal shelter #wcsmission #togetherwearewarsaw #kindnesswcs
