We are very proud to welcome our newest addition to the Washington family, Ms. Mykayla Newman! This upcoming school year Ms. Newman will be teaching 3rd grade along with Mrs. Fields, Mrs. King, and Mrs. Nieter. Ms. Newman comes to us from Nappanee where she was born and raised. She attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education in 2020. Ms. Newman has experience as a life skills paraprofessional and has just completed her first year of teaching at Chamberlin Elementary School in Goshen.
Ms. Newman's favorite teacher growing up was her third grade teacher. As she shares, "I hope to have that type of special influence on my students as well." Teaching has always been a focus and interest for Ms. Newman. Some of her hobbies are reading and music, which Ms. Newman hopes to be able to share with students in her classroom. "I have always worked with kids and enjoyed doing so, and am passionate about sharing my love of learning with children from a young age so that they will love learning too." This dedication has been on display from her supporting students at summer school in Goshen and already connecting with her new 3rd grade team as she onboards at Washington.
Having the heart of a learner herself, Ms. Newman is embracing her new setting. "I am excited to get to know everyone at Washington and to get to better know the community of Warsaw." Learning through the lens of STEM education is an important priority at Washington and Ms. Newman is jumping all in by participating in upcoming professional development with our Lakes & Streams curriculum. "I am especially excited to learn more about incorporating STEM in the classroom and making learning a fun and engaging experience for my students that will last with them for a lifetime!"
Welcome Ms. Mykayla Newman to the Warsaw community and a special welcome to the Washington STEM Academy family!
