Harrison Husky Book Box

The Husky Box is a new feature to Harrison Elementary this school year, and we can’t wait to see you use it! The Warsaw Times-Union donated an old paper box to Harrison Elementary. Mrs. Herring, one of our first grade teachers, repainted it for us to use. Mrs. Hagg, another first grade teacher, and Mrs. Herring really wanted to help families come together to enjoy books and practice reading, so they believed Harrison Elementary would benefit from a book box.

Mrs. Hagg said, “In the fall, we assess our students' reading levels. Sometimes we see students' levels go backwards and when asked if they read over the summer, many will say, "I don't have any books at home." In doing a little more digging, I found that many of our families don't go to the public library because of time or transportation. So, the Husky Book Box is a way for students to get books any time they want that is closer to their home.  All of the books in it so far have been donated by our very own Harrison Elementary teachers.”

Anyone can take a book at any time. If you like the book and want to keep it, you may. If you want to bring it back after reading it and exchange it for a different one, you may. If someone has a book that is still "like new" and school appropriate and wants to donate it, just put that book in the box at any time. Mrs. Herring said, “Our hope is that kids in the community will take and keep books for their home and that others from the community will donate books to the Husky Book Box.”

Thank you Mrs. Herring and Mrs. Hagg for bringing this to Harrison!
